Nurlan Jumabaev, a Kyrgyzstani, has been living in the city of Karaganda, Kazakhstan for many years.

He is engaged in hunting, fishing, and also in hardening his body.

“I was born on June 12, 1984, in the village of Korul in the Alai district of the Osh region. I have been living with my family in Karaganda for many years. I have eight sons: I take them to school and kindergarten, and I am involved in their upbringing.

I studied at the schools named after Zheenaly Orozov and A. Bektashov, located in the villages of Korul and Birinchi Mai. Unfortunately, I was unable to obtain higher education: in the 1990s, we moved to Kazakhstan for work.

My parents later returned, but I stayed here: I married a Kazakh girl. We met when I was renting a place in her family's house. In 2002, we had our wedding in the village, and before that, we dated for two years. We have been together for almost 26 years now,” Nurlan shared.

He first tried winter swimming about 15 years ago in Yekaterinburg. At that time, there was no opportunity to do it regularly — he would dip in from time to time. But for the last three years, he swims every morning — both in summer and winter, even when it’s -40 degrees outside. Moreover, the city of Karaganda is considered one of the coldest regions in Kazakhstan.

“I am a person who is close to nature. I am especially drawn to water. I fish all year round — both in summer and winter. There have been various incidents: the ice cracked, I fell through the water three times, but I managed to get out myself. Over time, as I started to dip more often, I felt a real attachment to it.

My hobbies are hunting and fishing. In 2021, I took 1st place in fishing competitions in the Karaganda region and 2nd place in Kazakhstan. In the future, I want to represent Kyrgyzstan well at international tournaments and raise our flag,” Jumabaev noted.

He added that no one in his family is against his hobbies; on the contrary,

“My father is 64 years old and he swims in the Alei River every morning. My sons in Karaganda have also started dipping with me for the past two years. In my opinion, winter swimming gives the body a good shake-up and helps with hardening. It is important to do everything gradually and wisely: each person should be guided by their own well-being,” N. Jumabaev shared.

In his opinion, hardening helps boost immunity, alleviate dizziness, pressure, stress, depression, sinusitis, bronchitis, hemorrhoids, prostatitis, oncology, and more.

“Now in Karaganda, more and more people — Kazakhs and representatives of other nationalities — are interested in winter swimming: they ask about the rules, come together, and learn. If last year there were only a few of us, this year there are noticeably more — people see the benefits of hardening.

Unfortunately, our entire population has thoughtlessly ‘got hooked’ on medications and injections — on chemical substances. All the streets are already filled with pharmacies. We are to blame for this ourselves: out of ignorance, we support their false business and allow it to develop. Please, if possible, stay away from medications. Thank God, there are many natural remedies: honey, cloves, ginger, cinnamon, turmeric, bay leaves, baking soda, hydrogen peroxide. With their help, many diseases can be prevented, treated, and healed. And our main enemies are mass-consumed vegetable oil, premium flour, and yeast. Therefore, please eat bread made from wheat flour on sourdough, not yeast.

I have many plans for the future. I want to move to Kyrgyzstan, take my parents on a pilgrimage. And together with my eight sons, do everything to glorify Kyrgyzstan and develop in various directions,” Jumabaev said.
