Jamalbek Mamasaliev, a veteran from the village of Kayindy in the Manas district of the Talas region, served in the Navy.

He received his primary education at the Chaldovar school, located in the Bakai-Ata district.

“In those days, if a student showed good results, they were invited to work as a teacher after the 9th grade. That’s how I became a primary school teacher at the school in the village of Üch-Bulak,” Jamalbek recalls.

He was called up for service in the Soviet Navy at the age of 22.

“I started my service in the Baltic Sea, where I completed a 9-month course as a navigator-electrician. This profession was extremely important for a military ship. I served on a vessel called ‘Albatros’ [Albatros].

An important moment in my service was participating in the official visit of Nikita Sergeyevich Khrushchev to Cuba as the head of the Soviet delegation.

For this event, only sailors of Russian nationality were selected, but I managed to become the only Kyrgyz in the ship's team.

During the trip, Khrushchev observed my work and was surprised that there was a Kyrgyz in the team. He asked the ship's commander about my qualities, and he described me as a worthy sailor.

Upon returning from Cuba, Fleet Admiral Semyon Mikhailovich Lobov presented me with a Certificate of Honor, and I also received a similar document from Captain 3rd Rank Nikolai Andreevich Karpenko,” Mamasaliev recounted.

He added that he completed his service in the Navy with the rank of senior navigator.

After returning to his native village, Jamalbek worked as an electrician at the Kayindy state farm and then retired.

“In 1981-1982, I became the champion of Kyrgyzstan in the game of ‘ordo’. I have the title of Master of Sports and several trophies, and I am also a veteran of labor and the Navy,” he noted.

With his wife Gulzhakan, they raised 7 daughters and 2 sons.
