The President noted: "To address the national emergency, a tariff system must be established, as outlined below. Under this system, an additional ad valorem duty may be levied on imports of goods produced by foreign states that sell or supply oil to Cuba."
The Trump administration is actively discussing the potential collapse of the Cuban regime, citing serious economic problems on the island. Washington has expressed a desire to see a change of power in the country.
The escalation of rhetoric from the White House followed a recent military operation in Venezuela, during which American forces evacuated President Nicolás Maduro and his wife. Trump emphasized that the United States will monitor the situation in Venezuela until a change of power occurs.
According to Politico, among the potential measures being discussed in Washington is a complete blockade of oil supplies to Cuba. According to estimates by the analytical company Kpler, at the current level of consumption, Cuba will only be able to last on its oil reserves for 15-20 days.
