The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan has prepared recommendations for citizens of the country in case they face eviction from hotels in the United Arab Emirates.
In light of the current situation in the Middle East, the UAE authorities have issued guidelines for hotels, stating that they must extend the stay of guests whose check-out time has expired without charging additional fees. If you are facing eviction or the threat of it, follow the advice below.
- Stay calm and politely assert your rights to continue your stay. Calmly explain to the hotel staff that according to local authorities' instructions, they are obliged to extend your stay without additional payment under the current restrictions.
- Do not leave your room voluntarily. Do not pack your belongings or sign eviction documents until you are offered alternative accommodation and the reasons for eviction are clarified.
- Request to speak with the responsible staff member. Contact the duty manager or hotel manager and ask them to record your request for an extension of stay in the hotel system.
- If you are being pressured, demand that the police be called. The emergency contact number for the police is 999. If the hotel continues to insist on your eviction, call the police yourself or ask hotel staff to do so for official documentation of the situation.
- Do not pay for your stay out of your own pocket. If you pay for the room yourself, these funds are usually not refunded.
- Document everything that is happening. Take photos and videos: the hotel name, front desk, notifications, correspondence, bills. If possible, note the name of the staff member demanding eviction. Keep all receipts and documents.
- Immediately notify the embassy or consulate of the Kyrgyz Republic. Provide the following information: hotel name, address, your room number, full name, contact phone number, number of accompanying persons (including children and elderly), and the hotel’s demands (eviction, payment, or relocation).
- If you have already been evicted. If possible, stay in the lobby or on the hotel premises until the police arrive or the issue is resolved with hotel management. Contact the foreign institutions immediately and provide all details.
Brief message to resolve the issue in English:
I am a stranded guest due to the current situation and flight disruptions. UAE authorities instructed hotels to extend guests' stay free of charge. Please escalate this to the duty manager. If you insist on eviction, please call the police so the matter can be officially recorded. (I am a guest stranded due to the current situation and flight disruptions.
