
Footballer became famous for his activities in Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan
Boris Podkorytov has passed away — a well-known football coach, as reported by the Kyrgyz Football Union.
Boris Petrovich Podkorytov died at the age of 78, a distinguished coach of the Kyrgyz SSR and one of the most influential figures in the country's football sphere.
He was born on May 3, 1948, in Frunze. He took his first steps in football under the guidance of the famous youth coach Vladimir Korobchenko. In 1966, after the completion of the all-Union youth tournament, he was invited to the experimental USSR national team preparing for the Olympic Games in Mexico City. There he played alongside stars such as Yevgeny Lovchev and Sergey Olshansky.
In his professional career, Boris Podkorytov represented the colors of Moscow's "Lokomotiv" and Frunze's "Alga," where he also wore the captain's armband.
After finishing his playing career, Podkorytov focused on coaching. After completing courses in Moscow, he became the head coach of "Alga" from Frunze in 1980. His career later took him abroad, including to Algeria, where in 1988 he achieved championship success with one of the local teams.
Throughout his career, he coached Kazakh clubs such as "Kainar," "Astana," and "Zhetysu," and also worked on the coaching staff of the national team of Kazakhstan.
Upon returning to Kyrgyzstan, he headed the club "Dordoi-Dynamo," which under his leadership repeatedly became the champion of the country and the Cup holder. An important milestone in his work was winning the AFC President's Cup in 2006 and 2007.
In 2006, Boris Podkorytov was appointed head coach of the national team of Kyrgyzstan, and in 2008 he transitioned to the position of general director of the "Dordoi" club. Later, in 2011, he became a coaching consultant for the national team.
He was repeatedly awarded the title of Coach of the Year, earning a reputation as one of the most respected and decorated mentors in the history of Kyrgyz football.
The Kyrgyz Football Union expressed its deep condolences to the family, friends, colleagues, and the entire football community in connection with the loss.
Boris Podkorytov's funeral will take place on Friday, March 6.
