Deserving figures of the country ask Sadyr Japarov to hold early elections

A group of public and state figures in Kyrgyzstan has appealed to President Sadyr Japarov and Chairman of the Jogorku Kenesh Nurlanbek Turgunbek uulu with a request for the urgent initiation of early presidential elections. They believe that this step can resolve legal issues related to the presidential term and provide a boost for the country's further development.

Among the signatories of the appeal are many significant figures, including former prime ministers and well-known personalities from various fields. This indicates that the initiators seek to emphasize that the need for a "reset" of legitimacy comes from the experienced part of Kyrgyzstan's political and intellectual elite.

According to the authors of the appeal, the year 2026 has become an important milestone for the country with the commencement of the new Jogorku Kenesh's work. They believe that this stage allows for an assessment of the changes that occurred between 2021 and 2025, during which Kyrgyzstan achieved a number of positive results.

First and foremost, the new leadership ensured order and stability in the country. Secondly, over five years, the army has been significantly strengthened, allowing it to effectively protect the state. Thirdly, contentious border issues with Uzbekistan and Tajikistan have been resolved, which is also an important achievement.

Moreover, the fight against corruption has led to a significant increase in budget revenues: before 2020, these amounts were only 200 million soms, but over the past five years, they have reached 352 billion soms. At the same time, organized crime has been curtailed, which has also been an important step forward.

However, the appeal also highlights serious problems that hinder the country's further development. First and foremost, this is the growing national debt, which is already close to the mark of 9 billion dollars. There is also a sharp rise in prices for goods and services, which has led to a deterioration in the population's standard of living: about two million people live in poverty, of which one million are children.

In addition, the country's economy still depends on the trade and services sector, while the share of industry remains extremely low. Finally, there is a trend of youth emigration abroad in search of better living conditions, which is a negative trend for Kyrgyzstan.

In the framework of this analysis and assessment of the current situation, the authors of the appeal concluded that there is a need to transition to the second stage of the current leadership's work. This is also emphasized by active discussions in society regarding the presidential elections, where the main focus is on the differences between the old and new constitutions.

It is important to note that the current president was elected in 2021 under the old Constitution, while the new Constitution, adopted in a referendum in the same year, specifies that the president is elected for a term of 5 years. According to the new norms, the term of the current president, elected for 6 years, is considered the first under the new Constitution. In this regard, lawyers and political experts have divided into two camps: some argue that early elections could be the only solution, while others insist on completing the six-year term.

Dear Sadyr Nurgoyoevich and Nurlanbek Turgunbek uulu,

In light of the aforementioned challenges and disputes, we strongly urge you to initiate new presidential elections in Kyrgyzstan. This will help avoid ambiguities, additional clarifications, and possible appeals to the Constitutional Court.

We are confident that a new president and their team, having the trust of the people and developing a quality development program, will be able to continue successful initiatives and address existing problems, putting Kyrgyzstan on the path to prosperity, - states the appeal.
