Felix Kulov: Early presidential elections in Kyrgyzstan could disrupt the SCO summit

“This creates unnecessary tension”

According to former Prime Minister Felix Kulov, possible early presidential elections in Kyrgyzstan could negatively affect the upcoming SCO summit scheduled for this fall.

Kulov expressed his opinion on the election situation, noting that they are impractical both in the context of Sadyr Japarov's presidential term and regarding his popularity among citizens.

“If Sadyr Japarov decides to hold early elections, he will have to resign. I believe this would be a mistaken step. Our SCO partners will not understand such a move, as it could disrupt the summit planned for the fall,” Kulov emphasized.

The politician expressed confidence that elections could be held in 2027, after the SCO summit and the World Nomad Games, which are also scheduled for that period.

“I would add that even if Japarov announces early elections and resigns for three months, it would not be difficult for him to regain the presidency. However, the absence of a head of state and uncertainty during this period will create unnecessary tension both within the country and for our international partners. This will also affect government members and other officials, as after the elections, according to the Constitution, a new cabinet will need to be formed. The question is, who needs this...” Kulov concluded.
