Changes to the rules governing the operation of border crossing points with Kazakhstan have been approved by the Jogorku Kenesh.

At a meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh, deputies supported the bill in its second reading concerning the ratification of a protocol that amends the agreement between Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan on border crossing points.

According to the new document, changes will be made to the operation of two checkpoints.

In particular, the 'Kamishanovka - road' checkpoint, located in the Chui region of Kyrgyzstan on the border with Kazakhstan, will be renamed to 'Tomonku-Chui - road'. Its status will also change from bilateral to multilateral, allowing citizens of other countries to cross the border.

Additionally, the operating regime of the checkpoint will also change: while it is currently open only during daylight hours, after the changes come into effect, it will operate around the clock.

Another change will be the transition of the 'Kichi-Kapka - road' checkpoint in the Talas region from a bilateral to a multilateral status, which will also expand opportunities for foreign citizens to cross the border.
