“Many take advantage of my kindness and softness, but this does not last long”
The head of state admitted that upon hearing about Azhiev's helicopter flight from the place of detention, he immediately ordered the aircraft to be returned. “We really released him under a pardon act. Azhiev's mother contacted me; I don’t know how she got my WhatsApp number, but she sent me a video message,” Japarov noted.
In the message, the woman spoke about her family's difficult situation: “My daughter-in-law with four children is facing serious difficulties; one of the children has a disability, and our financial situation has worsened significantly. Please pardon my son; he promises to behave decently.” The president decided to pardon not only Azhiev but also 75 convicted individuals who committed less serious crimes that day.
However, upon learning about the helicopter used to transport Azhiev, he immediately ordered its return. “As a result, Azhiev went home by car. The information about his helicopter flight turned out to be true, but we turned the aircraft around and landed it back in 15 minutes,” he reported.
Japarov also noted that some blame the Ministry of Emergency Situations for this incident; however, he believes the agency is not responsible. “Helicopters perform both commercial orders and emergency flights. We allowed them to be used during free time so that the equipment would not stand idle,” the president explained.
According to him, there were no instructions to pick up Azhiev specifically from the prison, as only the takeoff and landing points, flight time, and number of passengers were specified. “So there is no reason to blame the ministry. If someone wants to use the helicopter services, they can simply pay,” he added.
Japarov expressed surprise at where Azhiev could have gotten money for such an “expensive” trip. “When I heard this, I was confused. His mother is crying, saying they are left with nothing, while her son is ordering a helicopter right from prison. My first thought was that I was deceived,” the president noted.
He concluded: “Many take advantage of my kindness and softness, but this cannot last forever. As they say, if a soft person becomes tough — it is forever.”
