According to data provided by the National Statistical Committee of the Kyrgyz Republic, in 2009, there were 66 music schools operating in the country. The highest figures were recorded in 2011 and 2013, when the number of institutions reached 68. However, since that time, a steady decrease has been observed: by 2024, only 39 schools remained in the republic.
The regional breakdown shows that the largest number of music schools is concentrated in the Chui region — 10 institutions. The Osh region has 7, the Jalal-Abad region has 8, the Batken and Issyk-Kul regions each have 4, and the Talas region has 3. In the Naryn region, there is only one music school. Bishkek and Osh also each have one school.
Alongside the decrease in the number of educational institutions, there is also a reduction in the number of students. In 2009, 9,130 children were studying in music schools in Kyrgyzstan, and in 2013, this figure peaked at 10,266. Then a decline began, and by 2024, the number of students had dropped to 5,197.
Among the regions, the highest number of students is registered in the Chui region — 1,249 children. This is followed by the Jalal-Abad region with 884 students and the Osh region with 718. In Bishkek, 770 children study, in the Issyk-Kul region — 349, in the Batken region — 418, in the Talas region — 333, and in the Naryn region — 125.
Thus, recent years demonstrate a trend towards a decrease in both the number of children's music schools and the number of students, despite the ongoing interest in music education in some regions of the country.
