The art of Ebru finds its roots again
From March 31 to April 3, 2026, an exhibition of Ebru art will be held at the Kyrgyz National Museum of Fine Arts named after Gapar Aitiev, organized by the "Ebristan" foundation with the support of the Embassy of the Republic of Turkey in Bishkek.
Ebru, an art form with deep historical roots connecting Central Asia and Anatolia, is returning to its homeland. This ancient art form, developed in Turkey and gaining international recognition, will be presented to the audience in Bishkek.
As an honorary guest at the exhibition, Hikmet Barutçugil, an internationally recognized master of Ebru and holder of the UNESCO title "Living Human Treasure," will participate. His unique techniques and modern interpretations of the art have made him a significant figure on the world stage.
Mukhlisha Imamova, a student of Hikmet Barutçugil, is one of the prominent figures contributing to the development of Ebru in Kyrgyzstan. She actively promotes this art through her project "Ebru House Ebristan Bishkek," and in her creations, she reinterprets the cultural symbols of the country using the Ebru technique.
The exhibition will offer visitors not only a chance to familiarize themselves with the works of artists but also to witness live Ebru demonstrations. The program includes the creation of flags of Turkey and Kyrgyzstan, as well as the Aygul flower, which symbolizes the Batken region. Visitors will be able to not only observe the process but also immerse themselves in this unique art.
This event, combining elements of common cultural heritage with modern trends, will be a vivid example of strengthening cultural ties between the two countries.
