The Ministry of Internal Affairs warns about the increase in fraud via WhatsApp

Citizens are advised to activate two-factor authentication to secure their accounts

Recently, the Ministry of Internal Affairs has recorded an increase in cases of fraud using the popular messenger WhatsApp. According to the agency, criminals gain access to users' accounts and start sending messages to their friends and relatives asking for urgent financial help.

To protect their accounts from hacking, the Ministry of Internal Affairs strongly advises activating the two-factor authentication feature in WhatsApp. This option prevents the possibility of re-linking the number to a new device without entering a user-set PIN code.

To enable two-factor authentication, you need to open WhatsApp settings, go to the "Account" section, select "Two-step verification," and set a six-digit PIN code. As an additional measure, you can provide an email address for account recovery," the agency's message states.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs emphasizes that the PIN code should be kept secret and not shared with outsiders. Additionally, citizens are urged to be cautious and not click on links or use codes and QR codes received from unknown individuals.

According to agency representatives, following these recommendations significantly reduces the likelihood of unauthorized access to accounts and the leakage of personal information.
