In Osh, the dismantling of the monument to Barsbek-Kagan has begun, located at the corner of Gapar Aitieva and Bekmamata Osmonova streets. According to information from the city authorities, the relocation work is scheduled for January 8, 2026. The city hall reported that the monument will be moved to a new location; however, it will be different, as another monument is planned to be installed at the previous site. Currently, the monument has been temporarily dismantled, but it will be installed in the future at a new site.

Construction of a two-level overpass bridge, which will connect Osmonova and Kokum-Biy streets, is also actively ongoing in the city, with a total length of 390 meters.

It was previously stated that the monument to Barsbek-Kagan was planned to be relocated to the intersection of Kasymbekova and Razzakova streets.

According to information from the city hall, the relocation of the monument has become part of a larger project related to the expansion of Osmonova Street and the construction of a new bridge. During the discussion about the relocation, which took place on-site, it was instructed to develop a project by the relevant services.

The monument to Barsbek-Kagan was unveiled on October 5, 2011, timed to coincide with the City Day of Osh. It was installed at the roundabout of the highway in the Kulatov microdistrict and the intersection of G. Aitieva and B. Osmonova streets. 11 million soms were allocated from the local budget for its construction, and the project was developed by local sculptor Ravshan Mamatkulov.

Bridge construction work began amid discussions about the relocation of the monument, which had been raised in the past, including in July 2017, when Mayor Aitmamhat Kadyrbaev expressed ideas to improve the traffic situation in the area. At that time, there were about 99,000 registered vehicles in Osh, and the daily number of cars entering and leaving the city reached 150-170 thousand.

Drivers then proposed alternative solutions, such as relocating taxi stands instead of the monument. They pointed out that the main cause of traffic jams was improper taxi parking.
