The scandal surrounding the construction of the residential complex 'Altai' in Bishkek – comment from the Ministry of Construction

“No separate approval of the project from the Institute of Seismology is required”

Before the construction of the residential complex “Altai” in the vicinity of Bishkek began, engineering and geological surveys were conducted in accordance with current legislation. This was reported by the Ministry of Construction, Architecture, and Housing and Communal Services, commenting on a video of flooded excavation sites that appeared online.

The ministry clarified that the results of the surveys allowed for the determination of the groundwater level and the development of necessary engineering solutions, including the design of a drainage system. Additionally, a height limit for residential buildings has been set at five stories.

“The construction of the residential complex ‘Altai’ is classified as low-rise development, and issues related to seismic safety have been thoroughly reviewed by the relevant state departments. Therefore, separate approval from the Institute of Seismology of the National Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz Republic is not required,” the Ministry emphasized, urging citizens to trust official sources of information.

Earlier, the president of the National Academy of Sciences and the Institute of Seismology of the Kyrgyz Republic, Kanat Abdrakhmatov, expressed concerns about the location of the residential complex and warned of potential risks associated with groundwater.
