Those who do not pay alimony in the KR will be imprisoned

The maximum prison term will be three years


In the Kyrgyz Republic, prison sentences will be applied to parents who evade alimony payments. This was announced by Deputy Attorney General Umutkan Konkubaeva during a meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh.

The Prosecutor's Office presented a new draft law to the deputies, amending the existing legislation. According to the proposal, the following measures are provided for failure to fulfill alimony obligations or court decisions related to alimony payments:

- if the debt amounts to three months, an arrest for three days will be applied;
- in case of repeated violations within a year — an arrest for seven days;
- for failure to pay alimony for a year — community service from 100 to 200 hours or imprisonment for up to one year;
- hiding or underreporting income, as well as evading employment by court decision and order of the bailiff will be punished with a fine of 100,000 soms or imprisonment for up to three years.

The draft law was approved by the deputies in the first reading in the parliamentary committee following the discussion.
