The Oncology Center in Osh still lacks a linear accelerator

Every year, about 2,000 cases of cancer are registered in the southern region

At a recent parliamentary meeting, Deputy of the Jogorku Kenesh Bekmurza Ergeshov drew attention to the problems faced by the Osh Interregional Oncology Center, which serves the southern regions of Kyrgyzstan.

According to his data, approximately 6,400 new cases of cancer are identified in the country each year, of which about 2,000 are from the southern regions. At the same time, the oncology center in Osh is currently located in an old building that does not meet modern standards. Since 2010, the institution has been housed in a facility that was previously used as a kindergarten, as the previous building was deemed unsafe.

Ergeshov noted that the center lacks a linear accelerator, which is necessary for radiation therapy, and this is critically important since almost 85% of cancer patients require such treatment. Furthermore, the hospital's technical equipment is outdated and requires significant upgrades.

The deputy also stated the need for the construction of a new oncology center with 200 beds, emphasizing that the site for this has already been prepared, but the issue remains unresolved.
