On January 23, a lecture by Stephanie Dvareckas titled "When Mountains Fall: The Art of Landscape in Soviet Kyrgyzstan" is scheduled to take place at the National Museum of Fine Arts named after Gapar Aitiev.

According to the press service of the Ministry of Culture, this event will be conducted in English as part of the exhibition "Another Landscape: Art, History, Ecology."

In her lecture, Stephanie Dvareckas explores the genre of landscape in Kyrgyz art, analyzing the interaction of socialist realism with local ecological themes and motifs. She noted that the mood, color solutions, and ornamentation created a unique form of art that not only aligned with Soviet ideals but also contributed to the strengthening of Kyrgyz identity.

This lecture is part of her dissertation research dedicated to Kazakh and Kyrgyz art.

Stephanie R. Dvareckas is a co-curator of the exhibition "Another Landscape: Art, History, Ecology," a PhD student in the Department of Art History at Rutgers University, and a fellow of the Dodge Avenir program at the Zimmerli Art Museum, where she works with the collection of nonconformist art from the Soviet Union owned by Norton and Nancy Dodge. She holds a Master's degree in the History, Theory, and Criticism of Art from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, as well as a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Massachusetts College of Art and Design.
