An investigation has been initiated in Bishkek following a complaint by Asel Azamatova
According to information from the press service of the city’s police department, Asel Azamatova has filed an official complaint requesting measures to be taken against her ex-husband — deputy of the Jogorku Kenesh Eldar Suimanov. She claims that he has subjected her to psychological pressure for a long time and that there have been instances of physical violence in the past.
The press service of the Bishkek police confirmed that the information regarding this incident has been registered, and an investigation has been initiated. In this regard, a protection order has been issued, and necessary measures are being taken to clarify all circumstances. The case is under the control of the city police leadership.
Asel Azamatova previously posted on social media about the systematic violence from her deputy husband and mentioned that the police did not respond to her appeals. After that, it is reported that the woman was invited to the Bishkek police department for a conversation to clarify when and to which law enforcement agencies she had previously appealed.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs explained that if the facts of violence are confirmed, the investigative authorities are obliged to initiate a criminal case and forward the materials to the prosecutor's office. Holding the deputy accountable is only possible with the consent of the Jogorku Kenesh, as he enjoys parliamentary immunity.
