According to information provided by Ira Volk, the official representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, the number of migrant children in the country has decreased by almost a quarter compared to the beginning of last year. The data was published on her Telegram channel.

The Ministry noted that there is currently a noticeable decline in the number of underage migrants in Russia. The tightening of control over the stay of foreign citizens, including children, has become one of the reasons for this decrease.

As of January 28 of this year, a new federal law has come into effect, which ensures the exchange of information between the Ministry of Internal Affairs and educational institutions regarding underage foreigners. This includes data on migration registration, enrollment in educational institutions, expulsion, and other important information.

The authorities believe that this measure will allow for more effective control over the legality of migrant children's stay in Russia and their access to educational services.

Additionally, the Ministry of Internal Affairs warns that parents or legal representatives who grossly violate obligations to ensure the legal residence of children and their education may be deemed undesirable for residence in the country.

It is important to note that starting in 2025, Russian authorities will tighten the requirements for the admission of migrant children to schools. As of April 1 of last year, a law has come into effect prohibiting the enrollment of migrant children who do not speak Russian and have not undergone verification of the legality of their stay in the country.
