At a meeting of the parliamentary committee on agrarian policy, water resources, subsoil use, ecology, and environmental protection, the Minister of Natural Resources, Ecology, and Technical Supervision, Meder Mashiev, expressed distrust in the World Air Quality ranking, which assesses air quality in the largest cities around the world. He believes that the data from this ranking does not reflect reality.

Deputy Umbetaly Kydyraiev provided an example, noting that Bishkek sometimes ranks at the top of this list due to air pollution, and asked the official about the reasons why the capital of Kyrgyzstan continues to hold such positions.

In response, Mashiev clarified that the ranking is not authoritative. "In the last three years, there has been some improvement in air quality in Bishkek. The situation has not been as critical as it is presented in this ranking, where the city ranked first in terms of pollution levels," he noted.

Nevertheless, the minister acknowledged that the problem of air pollution remains relevant. He reported that the Hydrometeorological Service is installing its own sensors to monitor air quality.

Meder Mashiev also added that the capital should not hold the top position in the world for air pollution levels. He suggested that there may be technical errors on the website.
