This statement was made in response to questions from deputies regarding support measures for those facing crop loss due to a lack of irrigation water or natural disasters such as mudslides.
“Under the current conditions, the government is unable to provide compensation, as there are no funds available in the budget for this. Farmers need to insure their lands and crops. This is a business, and if we start paying compensation to farmers, similar measures will have to be introduced for other entrepreneurs as well. In the event of business risks, entrepreneurs should have the opportunity to receive insurance payouts,” the official explained.
In March 2025, it was reported that the government plans to develop an agricultural insurance system in the country. According to the document, six types of agricultural crops will be subject to insurance: cereal grains, corn, beans, cotton, tobacco, and sugar beets.
