Russian Ambassador: EU sanctions against Kyrgyzstan are unfounded

The diplomat considers this an interference in the internal affairs of the state

On February 10, the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Russia to Kyrgyzstan, Sergey Vakunov, stated that the sanctions imposed by Western countries against Kyrgyz banks and companies are unfounded.

He noted that this position is shared by the leadership of both Kyrgyzstan and Russia.

Vakunov also pointed out that Bishkek has repeatedly approached representatives of the Council of Europe with a proposal to analyze the operations of Kyrgyz companies affected by the sanctions, but the European side has not responded to these requests.

“This pressure from sanctions constitutes interference in the internal affairs of the country and may lead to serious negative consequences for its economic development,” the diplomat added.

It should be clarified that it was recently reported that two Kyrgyz banks, "Keremet Bank" and OJSC "Capital Bank of Central Asia," may fall under the new EU sanctions against Russia.
