FIFA President Infantino under close scrutiny before the UEFA congress

In Brussels, FIFA President Gianni Infantino will speak at the annual UEFA congress. This event takes place against the backdrop of increasing tension between FIFA and European football associations regarding both political and administrative issues.

One of the most discussed topics will be the possibility of Russian teams returning to international tournaments. Infantino previously indicated that the issue of suspension could be reconsidered, especially for youth national teams. However, most UEFA representatives oppose this, emphasizing that the situation has remained unchanged since the military invasion in 2022.

Additionally, European federations express concern over Infantino's close ties with former U.S. President Donald Trump, especially in light of the U.S. preparations for hosting the World Cup. Although discussions about a boycott have quieted down, distrust in FIFA's leadership continues to persist.

While the congress is not expected to lead to specific decisions, it nonetheless highlights the deterioration of relations between FIFA and UEFA.
