Today, at a meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh, Gulya Kozhokulova, a deputy, expressed the need to reform the work of the Bishkek city hall.

She noted that, despite having a large team, Mayor Aibek Junushaliev still faces challenging tasks and fails to address pressing issues.

“Citizens have numerous justified complaints. For example, they complain about the state of public transport: the buses are dirty, do not follow the schedule, and behave like minivans. It is unsafe to travel on such transport,” she emphasized.

Additionally, the deputy raised the issue of the ineffective use of municipal property, pointing out the chaotic construction in the capital. In particular, she recalled a recent scandal related to construction near the Central Department Store, noting that the mayor only weakly explained his lack of knowledge about the project: “Everyone knew about the construction, but he didn’t? This indicates insufficient control over construction in the center of Bishkek,” Kozhokulova posed a rhetorical question.

The deputy also stressed the importance of preserving the cultural and architectural heritage of the capital.

Gulya Kozhokulova drew attention to the poor condition of roads in the neighborhoods, where the damaged asphalt poses a danger to residents.

“When citizens try to convey their problems to the city authorities, they encounter a lack of willingness from the akims to meet with them. The main problem is that the city hall does not maintain contact with the population. The work of the municipality needs to be reformed; otherwise, unresolved issues will continue to accumulate,” she concluded.
