During the meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh on February 26, Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Erkebek Ashirkhodzhaev announced the plans of the Ministry of Internal Affairs to install video surveillance throughout Kyrgyzstan within the next 1-2 years.

This information was provided in response to the speech of Deputy Burul Amanova, who raised the issue of pickpocketing in public transport and places with large crowds. She pointed out that schoolchildren are particularly affected by this, experiencing significant psychological stress.

Ashirkhodzhaev noted that as part of the "Safe City" and "Safe Country" programs, cameras are already in operation that help monitor suspicious individuals.

“However, we cannot place a police officer next to every pickpocket on buses. In areas with high crime rates and in public places, patrols are already active. To address the issue of pickpocketing, it is necessary to implement video surveillance at all levels. Under the 'Safe Country' program, we plan to install 6,000 cameras, and then 20,000, which will allow us to fully equip the country with video surveillance within 1-2 years,” he added.

In response, Burul Amanova suggested increasing the number of patrols in shopping centers and other crowded places, even if this is not always feasible in public transport.

Additionally, the deputy inquired about crime statistics, to which Ashirkhodzhaev reported that there has been a trend of decreasing numbers in recent years.
