Macron, Merz, and Starmer threatened Iran with military response

Emmanuel Macron, the President of France, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer made a joint statement warning Iran of the possibility of military action. This statement was released by the German government on March 2, 2026, against the backdrop of ongoing missile attacks from Iran on countries in the Middle East.

In the document, it is noted that the Iranian attacks are characterized by "indiscriminate and disproportionate" nature, affecting even those states that are not involved in the US-Israeli operation against Iran. The European leaders emphasized their determination to protect both their interests and those of their allies in the region.

In response to the escalation of the conflict, France decided to redeploy its aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle from the Baltic Sea, where it was participating in the "Orion" exercises, to the eastern Mediterranean, as reported by the BFMTV television channel.

According to information from Le Figaro, about 60 vessels registered under the French flag or owned by French companies have temporarily halted in the Persian Gulf. These vessels passed through the Strait of Hormuz and received orders from naval forces to suspend movement.

In response to US and Israeli operations, Iran attacked ten countries in the region, including Bahrain, Jordan, Iraq, Qatar, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Oman, and Saudi Arabia, where American military bases are located.
