At today's meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh, Deputy Jumabek Salymbekov called on Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan to lift visa restrictions at the border between the two countries.

In his opinion, such measures negatively affect the lives of ordinary citizens who face difficulties due to the visa rules imposed by both countries.

“For many people engaged in business in border areas or studying at universities, these restrictions create serious problems. Previously, residents of Korday preferred to travel to Bishkek for treatment, as it was more convenient than going to Almaty. The new 90/180 rules have significantly complicated their lives. We must strive to eliminate visa barriers,” emphasized Salymbekov.

Deputy Foreign Minister Almaz Imangaziev added that negotiations to lift the 90/180 regime with Kazakhstan have been ongoing since the beginning of 2023. However, at this time, Kazakhstan has not shown readiness for compromise, and as a result, Kyrgyzstan has also introduced a similar regime for Kazakh citizens, which will come into effect at the end of 2025.
