According to the deputy, citizens of both countries living and working in border areas face difficulties when crossing the border.
“As is known, the allowed 90 days counted when crossing the border consist of the number of exits and entries. Kazakhstan is a brotherly country, and the presidents of both countries have established good relations. Can’t we change this 90-day regime to 180 days to avoid creating difficulties for people? We have much in common; our citizens work in the markets of both countries, and there are many mixed marriages. It is necessary to resolve this issue promptly, including through people’s diplomacy and showing persistence in negotiations with Kazakhstan,” emphasized Gulya Kozhokulova.
Deputy Foreign Minister Almaz Imangaziev reported that the issue of not applying the 90 to 180-day regime has been discussed with Kazakhstan for a long time.
“We raise this issue with our neighbors every year. However, in 2025, we did not receive a response to our request and were forced to introduce a similar regime for citizens of Kazakhstan. If Kazakhstan cancels this regime, we will also immediately abandon it,” he added.
Furthermore, Imangaziev noted that citizens of Kazakhstan do not face bureaucratic problems when registering. “We constantly monitor the situation at the border and can confirm that there is not a large number of citizens of Kazakhstan experiencing difficulties entering Kyrgyzstan. We also plan to amend the legislation to ease the conditions for a certain category of citizens of Kazakhstan who cannot enter the territory of Kyrgyzstan,” he concluded.
