The situation in the Middle East remains tense: there are no signs of de-escalation. This tension is felt worldwide, including in Kyrgyzstan.

Initially, the consequences of the conflict affected the tourism sector.

At the moment, trips of Kyrgyz citizens for Umrah are temporarily restricted. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has urged citizens to refrain from traveling to this region. The evacuation of Kyrgyz citizens from Middle Eastern countries is also ongoing.

In the long term, the conflict may impact the country's economy.

Economists have already warned that the price dynamics of fuel will depend on the cost of fuel at Russian refineries, as this market influences price formation for Kyrgyzstan.

Let’s consider how events in the Middle East are affecting the economic situation in the republic.

Remittances from Migrants

According to information from the National Bank, in 2025, $76.4 million was received from countries far abroad (this figure does not include remittances from Turkey, the USA, and South Korea).

Everything Can Change at Any Moment

Igor Golubev, Deputy Head of the Association of International Freight Forwarders of Kyrgyzstan, noted that due to military actions, trade with Iran has practically ceased, transit with Turkey has been disrupted, and supplies from the Iranian port of Bandar Abbas, close to the Strait of Hormuz and the ports of the UAE, have become difficult.

“Problems have arisen with both sea and air transportation. Previously, goods sent in transit through Pakistan and Iran departed from the port of Karachi (Pakistan). However, due to strained relations between Afghanistan and Pakistan, where combat actions are also taking place, transit has stopped,” Golubev reported.

“We are closely monitoring the news; the situation in Pakistan is the most important for us. It is difficult to predict. Everything can change in a matter of hours,” he added.

Golubev also noted that goods from the Persian Gulf are arriving with delays. It is necessary to either wait or redirect freight transport to other routes.

“Some goods are being sent through Chinese points. However, such logistics will be more expensive. We have few options. Goods from America can be received through Georgia, while cars, equipment, and spare parts used to come from the UAE. Now their cost will increase, and the waiting time will extend,” the representative of freight forwarders concluded.

Fuel

The conflict has caused significant disruptions in the supply of oil and gas through the Strait of Hormuz, which is a crucial transport route for one-third of liquefied natural gas and almost a quarter of the world's oil.

At the moment, Kyrgyzstan does not need to worry, as fuel is coming from Russia in accordance with an intergovernmental agreement, which allows for the avoidance of duties.

“The situation in the fuel market is under control, and in the short term, it does not have a negative impact on the domestic market. According to oil traders, the supply of petroleum products is being carried out without disruptions and according to schedule. Stocks are available for two months,” the State Anti-Monopoly Agency assured.

Economic experts note that the impact on the economic situation will be felt next month when the results on income and losses are summarized. Nevertheless, they hope for a quick resolution of the conflict in the Middle East and the restoration of economic ties.
