At a meeting with directors and founders of private schools in Almaty, Minister of Education Zhuldyz Suleimenova shared new requirements that are being introduced for the operation of these educational institutions. This was reported by Tengrinews.

.

According to the new regulations, private schools will only be allowed to open in areas where there is a genuine need. Licenses for opening will be issued only in cases where there is a need to replace three-shift schools, institutions in emergency condition, or in regions where there is a shortage of public schools.

Additionally, under the new legislation, the requirements for the founders of private schools will be significantly tightened. "They will be responsible for the quality of the educational process, the qualifications of teachers, and the safety of students. In the future, it is also planned to revise the procedure for appointing school directors. Decisions will now be made in coordination with the sectoral ministry and local authorities, rather than solely at the discretion of the founders," the ministry explained.

According to the agency's data, as of January 2026, there are 890 licensed private schools operating in the country. The government also intends to impose a moratorium on placing state orders in recently opened private educational institutions.
