The Central District Court of Seoul sentenced Kim Gon-hee, the wife of former South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol, to one year and eight months in prison. This was reported by the Yonhap agency.

She was convicted of receiving expensive gifts from members of the "Unification Church".

It is worth noting that Kim Gon-hee was arrested in August 2025. Among the charges is receiving a Dior bag valued at $2,200 as a gift. The presidential administration confirmed that the gift was received but noted that the bag "is used and stored as government property." Kim Gon-hee was also accused of colluding with the former head of Deutsch Motors, the BMW dealer in South Korea, to manipulate stock prices and extract illegal profits.

As for Yoon Suk-yeol, he is also under arrest. On December 3, 2024, he declared martial law, citing the need to protect the country from "threats posed by North Korean communist forces." The martial law was lifted just a few hours later, and the former president was charged with inciting rebellion, abuse of power, and aiding the enemy. The trial in his case is ongoing, and one of the charges carries a request for the death penalty.
