A citizen who had been on the international wanted list for a quarter of a century was arrested in Talas, reports the press service of the Talas region's Internal Affairs Department.

According to the information, a criminal case was opened against a resident of the Talas district named K.K., born in 1972, on December 6, 2000. He was charged under Article 129, Part 1 of the Criminal Code of Kyrgyzstan (as amended in 1997) for "rape".

On December 11 of the same year, the Talas district prosecutor's office decided to arrest K.K., declaring him wanted. A ruling was also issued for his detention and custody in case of discovery.

Over time, due to changes in legislation, the case was reclassified from Article 129, Part 1 to Article 154, Part 2, Item 3 of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic, which concerns "rape with the threat of violence dangerous to life or health".

K.K. had been wanted since February 18, 2000. As a result of operational actions by the Talas District Department of Internal Affairs, he was detained in June 2024 in Yekaterinburg, Russia. Following this, extradition procedures began.

On February 1, 2026, he was returned to Kyrgyzstan, handed over to the investigative service of the Talas District Department of Internal Affairs, and placed in the temporary detention facility of the Talas city police, as stated in the official report.

Currently, investigative activities are ongoing.
