According to residents' accounts, the problem of unauthorized dumping near Kozhomkul has persisted for many years. People expressed dissatisfaction with the proximity of the landfill to residential houses, frequent waste fires, and toxic smoke polluting the air. Last month, the authorities closed the landfill, and waste is now transported to the city landfill in Bishkek. Cleanup and reclamation work is currently being carried out on the old site.
Despite the closure and ongoing improvement efforts, some residents continue to bring waste here. "The landfill was closed a month ago, and waste is now taken to Bishkek, while the area is being cleaned. Nevertheless, some continue to bring garbage in 'Hyundai Porter' trucks. One such violator was caught on the spot, and residents forced him to return all the waste back to the truck and clean the area," eyewitnesses reported.
Local residents plan to continue preventing such pollution cases, striving to finally resolve the long-standing environmental issue in their village.
