Digital restoration has allowed modern viewers to see the iconic documentary film from the 1970s anew.

The documentary "Naryn Diary," which has become significant in the history of Kyrgyz cinema, has been restored in digital format. The film highlights the construction of the Toktogul Hydroelectric Power Station and the events leading up to the creation of the country's largest hydroelectric facility.

Director Algimantas Vidugiris, who was also directly involved in the construction of the Toktogul HPP, has left a significant mark in history. His participation is documented in the newspaper Pravda, issue 292 from October 19, 1973, as well as in a builder's certificate.

The film stands out for the unique approach of the author, who was directly involved in the events described. This insider perspective gives the film a special tone and emphasizes its documentary authenticity.

The filming crew, which included Algimantas Vidugiris, Bolot Tabaldiev, and Nikolai Ryshkov, floated down the Naryn River on a homemade raft. Their route passed through areas that later became submerged by the waters of the Toktogul reservoir.

The film captured the lives of people living in the coastal villages, including shepherds, archaeologists, construction workers, and schoolchildren. It became not only a chronicle of the last days of the river in its former state but also a reflection of the beginning of a new era in energy. The film is part of a duology about the construction of the hydroelectric station, which took more than 15 years to complete.

Now "Naryn Diary" is once again available to viewers in restored quality. The digital restoration preserved the visual elements of the original and made this important historical document accessible to the current generation.

Years later, the film remains a unique blend of personal experience and artistic vision. The story of the builders of the Toktogul HPP, a key facility in Kyrgyzstan's energy infrastructure, continues to hold an important place in the cultural memory of the country.

It is worth noting that the capacity of the Toktogul HPP is 1,440 megawatts, which provides about 60% of all electricity generated in the Kyrgyz Republic.
