In Kyrgyzstan, despite existing laws and measures to combat domestic violence, cases of this phenomenon continue to occur. The Attorney General, Maksat Asanaliev, announced this data on April 8 while presenting the annual report of the General Prosecutor's Office at a meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh.

He noted that in 2023, 36 criminal cases were initiated under Article 177 of the Criminal Code, which pertains to responsibility for domestic violence.

A total of 656 criminal cases related to domestic violence have been registered across the republic. As a result of these actions, 458 women, 104 children, and 94 men were affected.

The Attorney General emphasized that the analysis of these crimes indicates their roots are linked to socio-economic difficulties, the deterioration of moral and cultural norms in society, as well as psychological aspects such as aggressive behavior and the desire to humiliate vulnerable family members.
