Comprehensive support for victims is necessary
Nazgul Turdubekova, head of the Public Fund "League of Child Rights Defenders," has sent an appeal to the president, the prime minister, and the deputy speaker of parliament, pointing out the persistently high level of domestic violence. She reported this on her social media blog.
The human rights activist believes that combating domestic violence should become the foundation of state policy.
In this regard, she proposed to legislatively introduce an interdisciplinary model of support for victims, which would include a lawyer, psychologist, and social worker.
In her opinion, the current focus in the fight against domestic violence is on the actions of law enforcement agencies, which often leads to responses only after violence has occurred or even in the case of murder.
“Such an approach does not allow for comprehensive protection and prevention of repeated instances of violence. We must shift from reactive measures to preventive and comprehensive support systems. In this context, I propose:
– to adopt a law on providing psychological assistance, which will establish the obligation of psychological support in cases of domestic violence;
– to officially approve the mandatory participation of an interdisciplinary team in every case of violence;
– to create an institute of social workers that will focus on preventing domestic violence, early detection of risks, and supporting families;
– to ensure funding for the activities of psychologists and social workers, as well as to develop clear standards for interaction between agencies,” she added.
Nazgul Turdubekova emphasizes that the implementation of the new model will create an effective prevention system, reduce the number of repeated instances of violence, improve the quality of judicial protection, and increase public trust in the justice system.
