Sanjar Akylbek uulu from the village of Koldyk (Kolduk) in the Uzgen district of the Osh region is engaged in breeding taigans.

In a conversation with a Turmush correspondent, he shared that he started working in animal husbandry after returning to his homeland, where he spent six years working in Russia. He returned two years ago due to his mother's illness and got married in May 2025.

“My love for taigans (Kyrgyz greyhounds) began in childhood when my father also kept and trained these dogs. I think this interest was passed down to me from him. Even while living in the city, I always felt drawn to rural life. From an early age, I hunted with taigans for foxes and jackals. Anyone who has ever hunted with a taigan will definitely want to have such a dog. I currently have four taigans — two females and two males, as well as one Jagdterrier. Taigans are very friendly and, when going hunting, act in unison as if they have coordinated their actions in advance. They display incredible speed, agility, and intelligence, and their teeth are much sharper than those of other dogs,” Sanjar said.

He also shared a funny incident. “Every year we go to the jailoo for livestock slaughter. Once, I went to the jailoo, and the next day I returned early in the morning. After tying up my horse, I heard loud clucking from the chickens. My taigans immediately rushed forward, and I followed them. By the time I arrived, they had already caught a fox. I had a large rooster, and the fox seemed to have decided to take it. However, it couldn’t bite through its feathers and was just plucking them. When I saw the unfortunate rooster, it was in terrible condition and very frightened. I remember it didn’t make a sound for three days, and only on the fourth day was it able to crow,” he added.

Another interesting story happened when I urgently needed to go to the city in my "Porter" truck. Upon arrival, I stopped and got out of the car to meet someone. Suddenly, I noticed that my taigan was following me. It turned out that it had quietly climbed into the truck bed and was riding with me. The people around were completely bewildered. I dream of engaging in breeding and presenting the Kyrgyz taigan to the whole world. If given the opportunity, I will do everything to make my dream come true,” Sanjar concluded.

Sanjar is 23 years old.
