At the racetrack in the city of Tokmok, Chui region, traditional regional competitions among Kyrgyz Taigans took place. This was reported to Turmush by one of the event organizers, the chairman of the Kyrgyz Federation of Taigans [“Kyrgyz Taigan”] Talai Shukurov.

According to him, the regional competitions of Taigans are traditionally held in February-March, and this year was no exception. “We evaluated the speed qualities of male dogs, females, and puppies in their categories. In addition, among adult males, a courage test was conducted — they were released onto a wolf. The speed races took place over a distance of 500 meters,” Shukurov said.

A total of 43 purebred Taigans participated in the competitions. Based on the results of the races and tests, winners were determined.

Courage test (wolf chase):

- 1st place: Taigan Barbayan (Bishkek city);

- 2nd place: Taigan Ak-Tosh (Kosh-Korgon village, Chui district);

- 3rd place: Taigan Tapancha (Kant city).

Speed race among adult males (500 meters):

- 1st place: Taigan Shahin (Belovodskoye village);

- 2nd place: Taigan Tapancha (Kant city);

- 3rd place: Taigan Orok (Bishkek city).

Speed race among females:

- 1st place: Taigan Strelka (Kemin district);

- 2nd place: Taigan Kara-Köz (Chui district);

- 3rd place: Taigan Ayan (Bishkek city).

As Shukurov says, the event is aimed at preserving and popularizing the national breed of dogs — the Kyrgyz Taigan, which is an important element of the cultural heritage of nomads.
