
From February 6 to 22, the XXV Winter Olympic Games will be held in Italy.
According to information on the official Olympic website, more than 90 countries will participate in the competitions, including the Kyrgyzstan team, which will be represented by two athletes.
The team consists of: Timur Shakirov, who will compete in alpine skiing under the guidance of coach Igor Borisov, and Artur Saparbekov, who is engaged in cross-country skiing under the mentorship of Alexander Levdansky.
Artur Saparbekov will participate in the classic style sprint and the 10-kilometer freestyle race, which will take place in Val di Fiemme. Timur Shakirov, in turn, will compete in the giant slalom and slalom at the Bormio resort.
At these Olympic Games, 109 sets of medals will be contested in 15 disciplines, including cross-country skiing, biathlon, alpine skiing, snowboarding, speed skating, hockey, and other sports. Thousands of athletes from around the world are expected to compete in the events.
Also, from March 6 to 15, 2026, the Winter Paralympic Games will be held in Italy, featuring athletes with disabilities.
