In an interview with Sport AKIpress, the coach of the Kyrgyz national team, Evgeny Petrashov, shared details about the preparation for the 2028 Olympic Games.
- What competitions has he already participated in the USA?
- He took part in two stages of the World Cup, but unfortunately fell ill and could not show good results. Then he competed at the US Championships, although it was after intense training. We decided to focus on the result, so he didn't even shave. In the finals, he finished 5th twice in one of the distances and also competed in a tournament in Austin.
- It is clear that you are currently preparing for the Olympic Games. What is your next start?
- The entire world elite of swimming is currently in the USA, all preparing for the Olympics. Our goal is the same. However, the next significant event for us will be the Asian Games in Japan, which will take place in the fall of 2026.
- Has the Olympic selection already begun for you?
- The international federation has already provided us with the standards that will come into effect on April 1, 2027. This year, an additional distance has been added — 50 meters breaststroke. The requirements have become even stricter than in previous years.
- What are your impressions of the start in Austin, where Denis won three medals?
- It was the start of the season, and we did a lot of work both in the gym and in the water.
- Denis won three medals, but what about his time results?
- All the results are very close to his personal records. With such preparation for the Asian Games, he will be in excellent physical shape. This will provide an opportunity to check how effectively our plan has worked, provided that we can complete all the planned training sessions.
