An all-party parliamentary group on Mongolia has been established in the UK Parliament

According to MiddleAsianNews, a new all-party parliamentary group focused on Mongolia (All-Party Parliamentary Group — APPG) has been formed in the UK Parliament. The first meeting took place on February 2, 2026, with the participation of the Ambassador of Mongolia, Enkhzukh Battumur. This information was published on the official Facebook page of the Embassy of Mongolia.

The initiative to create this parliamentary group was led by MP James Wild, who took the position of chair, while MP Catherine West became the vice-chair.

The leadership team also includes Mr. Dave Dugan and Baroness Northover. More than 20 parliamentarians joined the new group, including Mr. James Wild, Ms. Catherine West, Mr. Dave Dugan, Baroness Northover, as well as Mr. Fabian Hamilton, Baroness Evans, Lord Cromwell, Baroness Uddin, Baroness Hooper, and Earl Courtown.

Also present at the meeting were high-ranking officials such as Ms. Karen Maddox, Deputy Director for Northeast Asia at the Foreign Office, and Ms. Sophie Worrell, Deputy Head of Mission at the British Embassy in Ulaanbaatar.

The parliamentary group on Mongolia has existed since 1995 and actively participates in fostering Mongolian-British relations by questioning the UK government, requesting necessary information, and providing support within Parliament. The group's work has been crucial in assisting Mongolia during difficult transitional times.

Members of the newly formed group expressed interest in closely studying the policies and initiatives implemented by the Mongolian government in areas such as minerals, renewable energy, environmental protection, the role of women, and security issues. They are also ready to support efforts to strengthen bilateral relations and cooperation in these areas at the parliamentary level.

All-Party Parliamentary Groups (APPGs) are voluntary associations of MPs formed to discuss issues of common interest and must include at least 20 members from the major parties represented in Parliament.

Recent changes to the rules governing the activities of parliamentary groups have limited the number of such associations that each MP can officially join to six. Thus, the establishment of the parliamentary group on Mongolia in the new composition of Parliament formed in 2024 underscores the significance that the UK attaches to Mongolia.
