In Thailand, the sale of alcohol will be temporarily banned due to elections

In connection with the upcoming early parliamentary elections in Thailand, a one-day ban on the sale of alcoholic beverages will be imposed. This was reported by the tourist police, citing information from TASS.

The ban will take effect on Saturday, February 7, starting at 6:00 PM and will last for 24 hours. During this time, the sale and distribution of all types of alcoholic products will be prohibited throughout the country.

These restrictions will affect mini-markets, supermarkets, restaurants, clubs, and other establishments where alcoholic beverages are sold.

The police warned of the consequences for violating this ban: fines of up to 10,000 baht (approximately $314) or imprisonment for up to six months, or both penalties simultaneously. Citizens and tourists are advised to show understanding regarding these measures, which are aimed at ensuring a fair and calm voting process.

The early elections for the House of Representatives are scheduled for February 8, 2026. This decision was made after the dissolution of the lower house at the initiative of Prime Minister Anuthin Charnvirakul. A referendum concerning the development of a new constitution for the country will also take place on the voting day.
