Israel or Russia? NSA recorded a conversation between foreign intelligence and Trump's inner circle

The head of the NSA restricted the dissemination of intercepted information

Last year, the U.S. National Security Agency (NSA) recorded an unusual phone conversation involving representatives of foreign intelligence and one of President Donald Trump's close advisors. This information became known thanks to a publication by the Guardian, citing the informant's lawyer, who has access to intelligence data.

The discussed information turned out to be extremely sensitive and caused significant resonance in Washington over the past week. This data was communicated to the U.S. Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, as reported by TRT.

According to the informant's lawyer Andrew Bakai, Gabbard prohibited NSA employees from sharing this information. Instead, she passed a paper version of the intelligence data to Suzy Wails, the head of the president's administration.

The day after the meeting with Wails, Gabbard ordered that this information not be published and demanded that highly classified materials be sent directly to her office. These details were also voiced by Bakai.

Previously, there was no information about Gabbard's interaction with the NSA, and this data was only communicated to the Guardian.

Initially, Bakai claimed that the conversation took place in the spring of 2025, mentioning contact between a foreign intelligence representative and someone from Trump's circle. However, he later admitted to the mistake.

“The NSA intercepted a conversation between two members of foreign intelligence and a person close to the Trump administration,” Bakai noted.

He also added that “the NSA does not conduct surveillance without grounds.”

According to a source familiar with the situation, the individual from Trump's circle is not a government employee and does not hold an official position in the U.S. administration.

Bakai reported that he is often approached by representatives of the intelligence community for legal advice, citing his previous experience working in the CIA's Office of Inspector General.

The spokesperson for the Director of National Intelligence commented on the situation for the Guardian, stating: “This report is not accurate. All actions taken by Director Gabbard were fully in accordance with her legal authority, and attempts to politically manipulate classified information undermine the important work that intelligence community employees perform daily to ensure national security.”
