Preparations for a possible military operation against Iran, which could last several weeks, are actively underway in the U.S. as they await a decision from President Donald Trump. Reuters reports that this is related to a potential escalation of the situation, despite ongoing diplomatic efforts.

On February 17, negotiations are scheduled to take place in Geneva between representatives of the U.S. and Iran. The American delegation will be led by Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, with Oman acting as a mediator.

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio noted that Washington would prefer to resolve the situation peacefully, but acknowledged that it is "very difficult."

On February 13, Donald Trump expressed the opinion that a change of power in Iran is possible, adding that it "seems like the best thing that could happen." He did not specify who might take over as head of state.

According to information published in the media, the U.S. has significantly increased its military presence in the Middle East in recent months. Carrier strike groups led by the USS Abraham Lincoln and the USS Gerald R. Ford have been sent to the region. Additionally, The Wall Street Journal reports that another aircraft carrier, the USS George H. W. Bush, is being prepared for deployment.
