During recent negotiations in Geneva, the parties failed to reach an agreement on the Iranian nuclear program. Disagreements on key issues persist as the US intensifies pressure and sets stricter demands, according to The Wall Street Journal (WSJ).
According to the publication, US representatives Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner insist that Iran must dismantle three of its key nuclear facilities — in Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan. Additionally, they demand the removal of all remaining enriched uranium to the US. The American side also stated that any agreement must be indefinite.
Iran, for its part, rejected proposals for the removal of uranium, the dismantling of nuclear facilities, and the imposition of permanent restrictions on its nuclear program. Elyas Hazrati, head of the Iranian government's information council, previously stated: "Nothing will be exported from Iran," emphasizing that uranium enrichment will continue according to the country's needs. He also noted that the information from WSJ does not reflect the reality of the negotiations.
As WSJ reports, more than 20 fighter jets will soon be added to the already deployed American squadrons in the Middle East. An aircraft carrier, eight destroyers, and three US military ships have arrived in the region. US President Donald Trump warned Iran of "bad consequences" if Tehran does not comply with Washington's demands.
