
At the first session of the 15th Supreme People's Assembly, it was solemnly announced that Kim Jong Un would be nominated for the highest position in the republic, reflecting the unanimity and hopes of the Korean people, as stated in the official announcement.
The agency emphasizes that the elected leader is an "outstanding thinker and strategist," whose leadership is crucial for the fate and future of the people, as well as for the "eternal dignity and strength of the Republic." According to the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), the people of North Korea believe in a bright future for the next generations, asserting that "the socialism of our model will be invincible, and the cause of strengthening the armed forces and enriching the state will surely be achieved."
Kim Jong Un has been leading the DPRK since 2011. Since 2016, he has also held the position of Chairman of the State Council. Amendments to the Constitution adopted in 2019 solidified his status as the head of state and Supreme Commander of the Korean People's Army (KPA), whereas previously this role was formally held by the Chairman of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly.
