According to reports from North Korean state media, ground tests of a new solid-fuel rocket engine have been conducted, which is claimed to be capable of being installed on missiles intended to strike targets in the U.S. North Korean leader Kim Jong Un reportedly oversaw the testing process, according to KCNA.

As reported by AP, North Korean sources characterized this development as a "significant achievement" that could enhance the country's military capabilities. KCNA claims that the maximum thrust of the new engine reaches 2,500 kilonewtons, while during similar tests in September 2025, a figure of around 1,970 kilonewtons was recorded.

Experts interviewed on this matter suggest that Pyongyang may be exaggerating the actual capabilities of the new engine. Nevertheless, specialists note that solid-fuel missiles are easier to transport and conceal before launch compared to their liquid-fuel counterparts.

In previous statements, Kim Jong Un again sharply criticized the U.S. and reaffirmed the intention to continue strengthening North Korea's military capabilities.
