Kim Jong Un has been reappointed as the leader of the ruling party of North Korea

North Korea continues to develop its nuclear capabilities despite harsh international sanctions, regularly conducting intercontinental missile tests, which complicates the assessment of real progress in the military sphere due to the regime's secrecy.

Kim Jong Un, who took over the leadership of the country after his father's death in 2011, has invested significant resources into the nuclear weapons program, making Pyongyang a serious threat to the West, especially to the United States.

During the congress, which is now in its fourth day, he is expected to announce the next steps in the country's armament. Before the start of the congress, North Korea showcased a number of missile systems that they claim can carry nuclear warheads.

The party congress, held once every five years, began on February 19 and gathered about 5,000 party members, providing a rare opportunity to glimpse into the structure of political power that remains closed even to seasoned observers.

These gatherings are key political events, allowing insight into the country's priorities, including its foreign policy and nuclear ambitions.

While Kim Jong Un maintains his position, the composition of the presidium, or executive committee, has changed since the last congress in 2021, with more than half of the 39 members being replaced.

Last week, in his opening speech, Kim Jong Un promised to improve the country's economic situation and the living standards of its citizens, labeling this as "complex and urgent historical tasks."

Particular attention is drawn to the possible appearance of his daughter, Kim Ju Ae, at the event.

Earlier this month, South Korean intelligence reported that Kim Jong Un has chosen Kim Ju Ae as his successor. The girl, believed to be 13 years old, has been increasingly appearing at official events, including missile inspections and a military parade in Beijing alongside her father.
