In a recent report on the World Population Review (WPR) website, data on alcohol consumption in various countries is presented. As seen from the statistics, Kyrgyzstan ranks among the leaders in the region for sobriety, with a figure of 3.9 liters of pure alcohol per capita per year.

Researchers note that overall alcohol consumption in Central Asia is lower, which they believe is related to the cultural and religious traditions of Islam. For example, in Kazakhstan, the consumption level is 5.4 liters, while in Uzbekistan it is 2.1 liters.

The lowest figures in the post-Soviet space are recorded in Tajikistan (0.7 liters) and Turkmenistan (0.3 liters), as stated in the report.

At the same time, countries in Eastern and Central Europe lead in global alcohol consumption. According to WPR, Romania ranks first with a figure of 17.1 liters, followed by Georgia (15.5 liters) and Latvia (14.7 liters). Also in the top five are Moldova (14.1 liters) and the Czech Republic (13.7 liters).

It is important to note that for some countries, such as Saudi Arabia, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh, data on alcohol consumption is absent. The minimum figures, amounting to 0.1 liters per year, are noted in Egypt, Pakistan, Indonesia, as well as in Iran, Syria, and Kuwait.

World Population Review is an independent publication founded in 2013 that focuses on the research of demographic data and statistics.
