Hazards of alcohol consumption:
- Alcohol reduces self-control, slows reactions, impairs coordination, and promotes risky behavior, making it a frequent factor in fatal incidents.
- Over 40% of cases of interpersonal violence in this region are also related to alcohol, particularly affecting women and children. Alcohol is often a key factor in domestic violence.
- For youth, alcohol is one of the leading causes of premature death, disability, and accidents, including drownings and falls. Even with less frequent consumption, young people tend to abuse large amounts in a short period, significantly increasing their risks.
The highest levels of alcohol-related mortality are observed in Eastern Europe, where in some countries more than 50% of deaths from injuries are associated with alcohol consumption.
